Making Music Around the County
Summer was in full swing for the New Horizons Bands of Northern NY. With our numbers boosted by the Northern - returning Snowbirds, the Concert Band played in Potsdam, Massena and Colton while the Swing Ambassadors played in Potsdam (2 concerts!), Massena (2 concerts!), Watertown, Norwood Village Green, and Canton.
After a strong publicity effort (including TV and radio appearances by our Music Director and Associate), we held a Meet and Greet for prospective new members. Our beginner program will be starting in September.
At the end of August, several band members were "off to camp"...band camp, that is. Ron Berry co-directed a camp at Lakeside Chatauqua in Ohio while other members attended the New England Adult Music Camp in Sidney, Maine.
Making the News!
Music Director, Diane Mathie, and Associate Director, Brenda Curley, were interviewed on WWNY-TV to share information about our Beginner Program. We’re thrilled to welcome 8 adults into the program and the joy of making music.
Our Instrument Meet & Greet was well attended. Community members had a chance to learn about our beginner program and try out some instruments. Thanks to community partners Brick and Mortar Music, Northern New York Community Foundation, and the Potsdam Public Library for support.
Mark and Kathy Calcagno spent a week at the New England Adult Music Camp in Maine where they enjoyed making music with other senior adults, enjoying evening activities from Dixieland Jazz to Drum Circles, and experiencing classes from ukulele jams to learning about Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday.
