New Horizons Band grateful for support

To the Editor:
New Horizons Bands of Northern New York (www.newhorizonsbandsnny.org) is a St. Lawrence County non-profit organization providing opportunities for adults/senior citizens to rekindle their music skills and play in our concert or swing band. Founded in 2009, we currently have 50+ members from across St. Lawrence County.
During 2024/25 our organization sponsored several workshops for our members and members of the community at large. This included an improvisation workshop led by Tim Savage where participants learned to “go with the flow” and create harmony.
Last summer a workshop was held for adults interested in learning about different band instruments and the opportunity to participate in the band’s new beginner program. Due to the success of this workshop, our beginner program started with 8 students who are becoming proficient on their instruments. In February 2025, the band sponsored workshops focused on enhancing practice skills. These workshops were led by students at the Crane School of Music and were open to the public.
New Horizons Bands of Northern New York is grateful for the support we have received from SUNY Potsdam/Crane School of Music (including our wonderful student teachers), Dr. Jon Schaller, Jeremy Carney from Brick and Mortar, Brenda Curley, Tim Savage, New Hope Church, Potsdam Public Library and to all who attended our workshops.
Most importantly, we are grateful for the support we received from the Northern New York Community Foundation through receipt of a microgrant and to Tammy Madeja who submitted the grant application.
Many thanks for continuing to keep music alive in the North Country!
